|The Embassy Attends the Second Asian Forum on Women’s Development and Cooperation|
On 22 September 2022, the Embassy of the Republic of Malawi to the People's Republic of China participated in the Second Asian Forum on Women’s Development and Cooperation organized by the Women Empowerment and Development society in Asia-Africa (WEDS). The forum was held under the theme “Overcoming Difficulties together and Seeking Common Development” and took place in Beijing. Mrs Florence Phiri, First Secretary Administration, Ms Khumbo Mzikamanda, First Secretary Tourism/Development and Ms Catherine Kaliati, Third Secretary attended the event. During the event, Her Excellency Dr Joyce Banda, former President of the Republic of Malawi and Honorary Chairperson of WEDS delivered video remarks. In her remarks, Her Excellency highlighted the present challenges being faced by the world in peace, development and the pandemic and emphasized women's critical role in maintaining peace, fighting the pandemic and promoting development. She further said that when attention is paid to the economic empowerment of women, families enjoy better health, better education and better nutrition. She called all to join in creating a better tomorrow, ensuring financial inclusion of women and women’s participation in the process of building a harmonious society and world peace. Participants included representatives from diplomatic missions from Africa and Asia, government officials, entrepreneurs and business associations.
