THE EMBASSY PARTICIPATES IN THE 2023 GLOBAL WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP FORUM
On 4th of March 2023, Ms Khumbo Rudo Mzikamanda, First Secretary (Tourism/Development), and Ms Catherine Kaliati, Third Secretary (General Duties) participated in the 2023 Global Women Entrepreneurship Forum organised by the Asia Cultural Artists Association in Shanghai (ACAA).
The objective of the forum was to build an entrepreneurial exchange platform for women to speak and enable the facilitation of more women to start businesses.
During the event, the First Secretary Tourism/Development presented on Women Entrepreneurship in Malawi. In her remarks, the First Secretary indicated that women in Malawi are increasingly playing a critical role in powering the economy of the country through the creation and running of businesses. She noted that among others, capacity strengthening through business skills training and mentorship programs including business incubation programs and the ability to organize women into groups and or cooperatives have contributed to the growth of women entrepreneurship. She further highlighted that Malawi’s policies and plans that anchor the development of entrepreneurship including Malawi’s vision 2063 and its three pillars of Agricultural Productivity and Commercialisation; Industrialisation; and Urbanisation.
In her opening remarks Ms Zhang Xiuying, Secretary-General of the Global Women’s Entrepreneurship Forum of gave a brief on the origin and background of the Global Women’s Entrepreneurship Forum. Ms Zhang highlighted that under the support and leadership of the UN, the ACAA, Asia Riches International Communication (ARIC) and the Global Riches Forum will take action to build an entrepreneurial exchange platform for women around the world, so that women around the world have the opportunity to speak and facilitate more women to start businesses.
Mr Xiang Yang, President of the ACAA emphasized that the SDG’s are the only way to change the fate of human backwardness and poverty. He further noted that actively promoting gender equality is the only correct choice to ensure that women's status is generally respected, and that this is an important and primary basic condition for promoting the liberation of women's productivity.
Other speakers during the event included Mr Tu Jie, Vice President of the ACAA; diplomats from the Republic of Zambia, the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar; and representatives of female entrepreneurs.
The delegation of diplomats present at the event also visited the ACAA office premises where some art work is displayed and the UN Global Agricultural Science Technology and Culture Exchange Base.
